Policies

If you want to work with me on any sort of business or collaboration, then I'm excited to hear from you. Please read the relevant policy(ies) through before sending me an email at mumimnotamillennial@outlook.com

Ad / Collaboration Policy - for brands and publicists

I am open to any sort of collaboration or sponsored post provided that I am excited about your product / service and think it would be a good fit for the blog. With that said, I do reserve the right to refuse the project for any reason, including if I think the remuneration you are offering is not worth what you are asking me to do. Do not be afraid to contact me if you have a small budget, though - I will consider everything on its merits provided that:
  • You have read all of this policy and are willing to say that you have when I ask you.
  • You understand that all sponsored or collaborative posts will be announced as such to ensure transparency and in accordance with UK disclosure laws.
  • I am able to release any collaborative / sponsored content in my own time. Feel free to mention your preferred time period in your email, but I am not obligated to stay within this because I have to co-ordinate my blog schedule and the like. In return, I will of course notify you when my post goes live.
  • You understand that all links to your website and places to by your product in a sponsored post will be no-follow links (links that people can click on but will not contribute to SEO rankings) in accordance with Google's policy on partnered content.
If you choose to send me a gift or sample to review before contacting me, thank you, but I am under no obligation to review or feature that product on my blog or social media. If you decide to send it to me after I have already declined your project I will not feature it and reserve the right to keep the product for my own use. I will always discuss my post ideas with you at the early stages, but I usually like to incorporate a review into some other type of post (for instance, talking about your brand of highlighters within a post about making pretty notes) because readers tend to find this more interesting - which is good for both me and you.

In the unlikely event that you send me something and it isn't what I was expecting, either because it's defective or I don't like it as much as I thought I would, I will contact you to decide how to proceed. I will not write a post giving positive opinions if I do not have them - this would be unfair to both you and my readers - but I will work with you to come up with a solution everyone is happy with. If you would like me to send the product back, then I would be more than happy to do so but I will ask you to pay for postage and packing.

I have a separate, additional policy for books at the bottom of this page, so please make sure you read that too if it applies to your project.

Disclosure Policy - for readers

Anything I review on this blog I've either bought, been gifted by a friend / family member, borrowed from a library (if it's a book, CD or DVD), won it as part of a giveaway or competition, or been given for review by a publicist / company.

My opinion is not changed by where I have got the product from, but I will disclose at the beginning of a post if I have been given it as part of a collaboration - on social media, I will probably use #ad to do this.

All links within a partnered post are no-follow, meaning they don't contribute to the SEO rankings of the brand I am working with. I do not currently use any attributed links, but if this changes at any point I will specifically mention it in the post and list which companies I am attributed to here.

Thank you for reading! If you ever have any questions about sponsored content or anything else (especially post ideas, I love post ideas), leave me a comment or email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Review Policy - for authors and book publicists

If you want to send me a book to review, then the process is the same for any other product - send me an email, and if I'm interested I will send you the details to get it to me. However, I am a tiny bit more picky about which books I will read, so please read this through beforehand.

As I spent my early blogging days as a pure book blogger, I like to think I know a fair bit about the publishing industry and its genres. I mostly read YA fiction, with my specific preferences being contemporary and crime-based mystery - and I love crimey stuff so much that I will usually branch into adult fiction and middle grade for this genre. I do like fantasy but I tend to stray away from anything with a world based on the early days of a non-specific place in Western Europe, since I've read that far too many times. Diverse reads are my favourite and my best. If you aren't sure if I'll like your book, you can check my Goodreads, and if you still aren't sure then you might as well send me an email unless it's on the Do Not Send list below.

However, since books aren't the main focus of this blog, I will likely feature fiction as part of a round-up post with a link to a Goodreads review rather than a full-post review - readers tend to find this more interesting anyway, so hopefully this will be a good arrangement for both me and you.

Because of the theme of this blog, non-fiction will probably be featured more heavily along with a discussion of the real-life issues it covers. I will only say yes to things that are a good fit, meaning it somehow relates to my main themes: school life, generational divides (particularly relating to social media), the process of blogging, and activism.

When it comes to that last one, anything to do with feminism, disability, mental health and LGBTQ+ or racial acceptance will be great. In the interest of #ownvoices coverage, I am a white, straight cis female who has cerebral palsy. I have some experience of mental health issues and how they are perceived from experience with close friends, but I can only really talk first-hand about physical disability issues. With this said, however, I am very interested in the way the world interacts with all types of minority groups, so I'm very excited to take a look as long as I'm not taking space away from an #ownvoices blogger / reviewer.

There are a few things I won't review, though. Please DO NOT send me:
  • Erotica (I can handle sex scenes in books with different plots, but if the book's about sex I'm not interested)
  • Picture or chapter books
I accept ebook, paperback and hardback copies. I don't really mind which.

If you're planning to send me anything in the future, please check back here first. My preferences change sometimes and I will update this page if they do.

Gold star for getting to the end of a super-long set of policies, everyone!

This policy was originally written on 27/06/18. Any amendments will be listed below.
